RIASEC, also known as the Holland Code/Scale created by psychologist John Holland consists of 6 different personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional. According to various sources, it is confirmed that students who face difficulties in choosing their university courses typically answers the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) for personality types and RIASEC for work or study interests which helped about 50% of students who are unsure of what they want to be in the future. It is proven that individuals will be happy and successful in the work environment that aligns their personality type. Below are the short descriptions of each of the RIASEC traits:
- Realistic (R): Practical, hands-on individuals who enjoy working with tools, machines, animals and physical activity. Careers in this category includes engineer, mechanic and construction.
- Investigative (I): Analytical, curious people interested in exploring and understanding the world through research and problem-solving. Careers in this category includes medicine, programmer and mathematician.
- Artistic (A): Creative, imaginative individuals who enjoys working with ideas, concepts, and aesthetics. Typically expresses themselves through various forms of art. Careers in this category includes designer, editor and writer.
- Social (S): People-oriented, shows empathy towards individuals, enjoys helping and interacting with others no matter the age, race and status. Careers in this category includes teacher, nurse and counselor.
- Enterprising (E): Ambitious, confident individuals who enjoys leading, inspiring, persuading and managing others. They usually love to handle projects. Careers in this category includes manager and sales.
- Conventional (C): Organized, detail-oriented individuals who prefers structured environments and tasks involving data, formulas and information. Careers in this category includes accountant, bookkeeping and clerk.
